Crochet Chemistry Set – Pattern Review

Have you ever seen a project and just been amazed and astonished that a talented, creative person not only made that… but even thought of the idea to make it. That was what I felt when I saw the crocheted chemistry set by Lauren at A Menagerie of Stitches. I remember it making a splash on social media a couple of years ago and I was just amazed at how cute and creative it is! At that time Lauren was making the finished product for her Etsy shop.

You can imagine my delight when I saw her calling for pattern testers for her chemistry set! I don’t think I’ve ever replied to something so fast and was so happy to be chosen to test her pattern.

About the Designer: Lauren is the talented person behind A Menagerie of Stitches. Like I said, I’ve been following her for quite a while on social media and she makes the cutest little amigurumi things with the best little faces!  And she has a BOOK coming out in June and I can’t wait to get my hands on it! Lauren is also one of the first makers that I met after following them on Instagram. We were both at Our Maker Life in Toronto last year. She’s not only talented – but so nice and fun to hang out with! Lauren’s Instagram: A Menagerie of Stitches

Difficulty: This is not a beginner pattern – definitely more intermediate. There are a lot of pieces although most of those pieces are pretty simple in and of themselves. A few parts are very different than any other item I’ve made before (like the Bunsen burner or twirly piece). But don’t worry, the pattern lays everything out there both written and with pictures!

Why you’ll love it: I mean – look at it. I don’t even like science and it makes me want to be a chemist. I think this is the most creative crocheted item I’ve ever seen! Like I said above – each piece is pretty straight forward by itself and it all comes together pretty well! There are also very specific details on how to build the support items like stands and things.

Why you’ll want to frog it: You won’t want to frog it. But you may get to a point that you think it will never be done. Keep pushing on! You can make as many or as few of the pieces as you’d like. I also got my husband to help with the stands and things that were made with wood but like I said – there are really great directions for that too.

Cost: This is a paid pattern for $14 (about $18.70 CAD). This pattern is definitely worth that! There is so much included that it comes as 2 PDF files! You can find it on Lauren’s Etsy page.

What is the most creative crocheted thing you’ve ever seen? Does this make you want to be a chemist? Let me know in the comments!
